Before You Arrive
A little planning makes for a great first visit.
We get a lot of the same great questions. Here are the answers, grouped by what you're trying to do. For the fine print on conduct and the grounds, see our Rules & Policies.
Membership & Access
Becoming a member.
Do I have to be a member?
Yes — you must be a member to visit or stay at The Woods Camping Resort. To become one, create an account in our system; Guest Services will use that account to finalize your membership during your initial check-in each season. All guests must be aged 18 or older.
How do I get a membership?
Making an account in our database is the first step. Choose Create Account from the Reservations menu. You can skip the credit-card step, but please complete every other field — otherwise we'll have to finish the process at check-in, which slows down your registration.
When you arrive, Guest Services will present your membership form and charge you for the membership. A valid government-issued photo ID showing your current address is mandatory. We offer two options: a full-season membership that expires on the last day of the current camping season, or a 7-consecutive-day temporary membership for guests who aren't planning a return visit this season. Membership rates are posted on our Rates page.
I was a member in the past. Do I need to renew this season?
Yes — a new membership is required each season. Keep your membership card! Your card and member ID number stay the same forever, but a new membership form needs to be signed each season.
Will I be welcome if I'm trans, non-binary, a cross-dresser, or a male/female couple?
Absolutely. The Woods is designed for the LGBTQIA+ community and welcomes anyone with an open mind. You'll find guests from every walk of life with all kinds of interests. You'll quickly lose your inhibitions in our friendly environment, forget about mainstream society's "rules," and boldly be your authentic self.
The only people not welcome at The Woods are bullies, racists, fighters, immature jerks, and those who get overly intoxicated.
How do I obtain a seasonal campsite?
Permanent campsites: Our waiting list for these sites is closed — even after building our expansion area, more than 100 people remained on the list, and we don't plan to construct additional perm sites. With only 1–2 sites turning over per year, it would take over 50 years to clear the current list. Sometimes a perm camper sells the items on their site, which can include the right to "take over" the site — but confirm with camp ownership that they're cleared to do so first, or email Woody with questions. Any perm site for sale is listed on our Seasonal Sites page.
Full-season weekend reservation sites: Select sites can be booked for the whole season at regular weekend rates (no discounts; storage fees not included). Prior participants get first right of renewal, and the program isn't transferable if you sell your equipment. Want to be notified when these open in winter? Let us know.
Field perms & overflow perms: Field sites include electric and potable water at one price for all nights of the season. Overflow perms can keep their camper in the same spot all season for an additional storage fee. When inquiring, please be specific about which type of site you want.
How do I get added to your waiting list?
Regular campsites: Sites reserve quickly once our annual online system launches in early March, and weekends often sell out. When that happens, your options are overflow camping or the waiting list. Add yourself during the online reservation process — if the amenities you want aren't available, choose Add me to Waiting List. When logged in, you can review and edit your waiting list anytime. You can also ask Guest Services to add you, as long as you have an account so we can reach you when a site opens.
Permanent / seasonal sites: See "How do I obtain a seasonal campsite?" above — the perm waiting list is currently closed.
Are there group discounts?
Yes — group rates are available. Reach out via our Contact page for our Group Info guidelines and we'll help you plan.
Reservations, Rates & Refunds
Booking your stay.
How much is it to visit The Woods?
There are three ways to visit: booking a campsite for overnight camping; being a guest on someone else's campsite; or buying a day or night pass for a designated period (never overnight).
For an exact quote, use our Rate Calculator, or enter your dates and amenities in the Find a Site tool during the reservation period to see every available option and its fees. A current-season membership is also required.
What's the latest time I can check in?
The Guest Services check-in desk is open:
Mon–Wed: 10:00am – 5:00pm
Thu: 10:00am – 10:00pm (Memorial Day to Labor Day weekends)
Thu: 10:00am – 6:00pm (before Memorial Day and after Labor Day)
Fri: 10:00am – 1:00am
Sat: 9:00am – 1:00am
Sun: 9:00am – 6:00pm
Arriving after closing? Call the number on the office door (Sun–Thurs up to 10:00pm) and someone will come help you. Very late arrivals must be pre-arranged.
Can I book for next season?
Each year we announce a specific date and time when online reservations launch for that season — usually the first Saturday in March. We don't take reservations for future seasons because campsite improvements may change the camp layout, and we're often upgrading our reservation system in the off-season.
Are there minimum nights required?
Weekends require a two-night stay; holiday weekends require three nights. There's no minimum for weekday reservations. If you arrive after a minimum period starts, you only pay for the nights you stay — for example, if the weekend minimum is Friday & Saturday and you arrive Saturday to an available site, you only stay and pay for Saturday night.
What is Flex Rate all about?
Flex Rate adds flexibility to our standard cancellation policy, which only offers Resort Credit (not refunds). For a 15% premium on your camping rates, Flex gives you a no-questions-asked refund option on your reservation payment, following this timeline:
15+ days before arrival: 90% of payment
8–14 days before arrival: 50% of payment
7 days or less: payment is forfeited
Choose the Flex option during the online reservation process. Refunds apply only to your reservation payment.
What's your cancellation and refund policy?
Without Flex Rate, cancellations are eligible for Resort Credit based on how soon you cancel — 90% with 15+ days' notice, 50% with 8–14 days, and no credit with 7 days or less. Refunds (rather than credit) are available only with Flex Rate. Full details live on our Rules & Policies page.
Can I get refunded if a family emergency or my job forces me to cancel?
We're sorry, but our cancellation policy is enforced regardless of the reason. If refunds matter to you, consider booking with Flex Rate, which does allow them.
What can I use Resort Credit for?
Check your balance by logging into your Woods Account. Resort Credit can be applied to campsite and cabin reservations (the system offers to use it before any other payment, and you must be the primary camper), Woods Store purchases, Café at The Woods purchases, and RV storage and valet fees.
Can I sell my reservation to someone else?
Yes. The financial transaction happens between the two parties, and a notification including everyone involved must be sent to Guest Services so we can update the reservation. There's a $15 administrative fee for this service. If a seller is found to have profited from the sale, their membership will be revoked.
If I have to leave early, can I get a refund for the second night?
Sorry — no refunds are given for early departure. If sites are available, you're welcome to book a campsite for an earlier Saturday night that same day.
What does a Daily Pass get me?
Daily Passes give you access to everything at the resort during the pass period — perfect if you live nearby or have a hotel or rental in the area. You don't have to pre-reserve, and passes aren't limited each day. To stay overnight, upgrade your pass and settle the difference.
Fri or Sat: Day Pass 10:00am–6:00pm; Night Pass 6:00pm–2:00am; Combo 10:00am–2:00am.
Sun*–Thurs: Day Pass 10:00am–8:00pm. (*Holiday-weekend Sundays follow weekend hours.)
There's also a Seasonal Daily Pass for free access during any day-pass period all season. A valid membership is required.
Can I upgrade my daily pass to an overnight stay?
Yes — you'll only be charged the difference in price. This must be done through Guest Services because you'll need a new car tag and wristband.
On the Grounds
Life at camp.
Is the entire facility clothing-optional, or just certain areas?
The entire property is clothing-optional except the inside café dining room. We ask that traditional nudist etiquette is followed, including using towels when sitting. Learn the property borders when hiking our 3+ miles of trails, and never stray off the designated routes.
Hesitant about the clothing-optional environment? The vast majority of guests are clothed — you'll never feel out of place if you stay dressed, and seeing others who choose to be nude quickly becomes "no big deal."
Are there a lot of people having sex?
A nudist adult atmosphere isn't a sexual atmosphere. If that's what you're seeking, The Woods isn't for you. Universal consent is expected here just as anywhere else, and behavior "never needing an apology" should be the norm. Overt sexual behavior in public spaces is unacceptable. If you're approached and not interested, say so — and if someone won't stop, ask Guest Services to dispatch a security officer.
Do you sell beer or alcohol?
The Woods is mostly a BYOB facility. During limited weekend hours, an associate bar sells mixed drinks, beer, and seltzers. Only guests 21 and older may responsibly consume alcohol. In Pennsylvania, wine and spirits are sold in state stores and beer at distributors — the closest beer distributor is Beltzville Beverage. Please note no glass bottles or containers are allowed on the pool deck or in the hot tubs, and overly intoxicated guests will not be tolerated.
Prefer to skip the alcohol? Our SOBAR alcohol-alternative bar is set up at parties and shot crawls all season.
What's your smoking policy?
Pennsylvania law prohibits interior smoking (café, dance club, and store). Our outdoor dining area has a few non-smoking tables, and the pool deck is smoke-free except in the designated area to the right of the pool cabana. Please dispose of butts in a proper container — never flick them on the ground anywhere on the property. We consider vaping the equivalent of cigarette smoking.
Are pets allowed at camp?
Yes — friendly dogs and other domestic animals are welcome with overnight accommodations, and evidence of vaccination must be available if asked. Except for legitimate service animals, pets aren't allowed in the clubhouse recreation area; keep them by your campsite or on a leash. Always clean up after your pet using the poop bags provided throughout camp, and excessive barking won't be tolerated. Pets — including emotional-support and comfort animals — are not allowed inside cabins or Park Model rentals. Legitimate service animals must be cleared through campground owners.
Where do I park?
Each regular campsite has room for one vehicle; all others should park in a designated parking area. Search "parking" on the aerial map in The Woods app to learn more.
What are the guidelines for overflow camping?
When all regular sites are booked, many guests camp in our overflow field. Overflow has no electric, water, sewer, shade, fire ring, or picnic table — but you'll find charging outlets on the clubhouse patio and comfort stations nearby for toilets, hot showers, and sinks. Fire rings aren't provided, though a raised fire dish is allowed (bring your own or rent one). Potable water for trailers is available across from the flag poles. Guests with generators must camp in Overflow C and Overflow D east of the Amphitheatre. Sites have no borders — your space is whatever you need — and they're priced per person, making them the most economical option, especially for solo guests. Minimum-night requirements still apply, and sites are first-arrive, first-pick.
Is there electric in the overflow and grove camping areas?
Limited electric is available. In Overflow, poles with 10–15 amp outlets can be accessed for a fee through Guest Services (first come, first served) — these won't power air conditioners or heaters. In the Tenting Grove, shared outlets are free; bring your own extension cords (14 gauge or lower recommended), mind tripping hazards, and never unplug another guest's cord. To safely use a generator, camp in Overflow C or east of the Amphitheatre in Overflow D.
Do you rent tents?
We don't rent tents — potential misuse and lost parts make them too easy to ruin. We do, however, sell tents and camping accessories in our store.
Can I just sleep in my car?
No — overnight camping in a car isn't permitted unless it's outfitted with sleeping accommodations. Vehicles set up for camping (such as a Tesla in Camping Mode with gear, or vehicles with tents) are all great options at The Woods.
Are there grills or grates at the campsites?
No sites come with a grill, though we sell charcoal grills in the camp store. Sites with fire rings are open pits — we sell grates for them too. Note that tent-grove fire rings are shared and not at every site, and overflow areas have no fire rings (bring or rent a raised fire dish).
How many tents or RVs fit on a site?
Each site lists its dimensions on our camp map page, so you can match your equipment to the space.
Can additional guests stay in a tent on my cabin site?
Yes — each cabin has limited yard space to pitch a tent. Only one vehicle can park at the cabin.
Can I bring a small or portable air conditioner for my cabin?
No — air conditioners are prohibited in our cabins due to insufficient amperage. Tripping a circuit breaker risks a blackout on adjacent sites as well.
What if I don't yet know everyone camping with me?
Book your site with the people you know now. Guest Services can add or remove names from your reservation, but every added guest must have an account in our database. The more you tell us before you arrive, the faster check-in goes — communication is key.
I'm a tenter — can I reserve a site with more amenities?
The Woods doesn't restrict the type of camping equipment on a site. Some sites are meant for more than tent camping but you can still book them, while others aren't suited to larger RVs. It's all spelled out in the site descriptions on our camp map page.
How do I get there if I don't drive?
You may be able to travel by bus from your area (including NYC, DC, and Philly) — Trailways runs buses to Lehighton and Jim Thorpe, PA, and Wanderu is an easy way to see your options. From there, take an Uber to camp; a few local Uber drivers can be contacted directly at 484-949-5317 or 267-745-5711. Our address is 3500 Forest Street, Lehighton, PA. Flying in? Choose Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE), about 45 minutes away.
