A Community Effort
The Woods Cat Rescue Project.
A volunteer effort to humanely care for the feral cats who call our 161 acres home — led by The Woods' very own cat lady, Jeffrey Mark.
The Feral Cat Population at The Woods
Caring for the cats of camp.
As many Woods guests have seen, there was a steady increase in the feral cat community at camp. Left unchecked, continued breeding would have expanded this population very quickly.
Fortunately, The Woods' very own cat lady — Jeffrey Mark from perm site 36 — took it upon himself to help these felines. The best way to control a cat population is to get them spayed or neutered. But that's not easy.
Jeff has been documenting his cat rescue progress since the winter of 2022, accomplishing incredible work one cat at a time. Thank you, Jeff!
How the Project Works
Humane, hands-on, and ongoing.
Spay & neuter
The most humane and effective way to manage a feral colony is to have the cats spayed or neutered, then returned to their territory. It's painstaking work, and Jeff handles it cat by cat.
Report a feral cat
A tile on The Woods app lets guests report a feral cat at camp. Jeff receives an instant notification and continues his rescue work throughout the camping season.
Jeff's progress
Jeff keeps a running report of the rescue project's progress since winter 2022 — a window into just how much care this effort takes.
How You Can Help
