Sites 102 & 103

Traveling to The Woods

Route tips for big-rig operators.

Even though The Woods is rural, the majority of roads leading here are modern and well kept. The roads closest to the resort have no shoulders, but are wide enough that you won't have to pull off to let anyone pass.

From the South

Philadelphia, South Jersey, Delaware, Baltimore, DC: You'll likely travel north on 476 (PA Turnpike). The only precautions are within the last mile. Google will advise our original entrance (Vaughn Acres Lane), but please use our newer entrance, Woods Way. Take Pine Run to Owl Creek to Hemlock to Forest to Woods Way. See Map B.

From the North

Scranton / Wilkes-Barre: You'll likely use 476 (PA Turnpike) south. If your GPS advises the EZ-Pass-only Exit 87 onto Route 903, you can exit there only if you have EZ-Pass — but be advised there's a steep road (8% gradient for one mile) with curves along Maury Rd, plus a half-mile gravel stretch along Forest St. If a steep decline doesn't make you nervous, it's the shorter route.

Alternatively, stay on the turnpike to the next exit (74), then follow the normal route within the last mile. Again, use Woods Way rather than Vaughn Acres Lane. From Route 209, use Harrity to Pohopoco to Pine Run to Owl Creek to Hemlock to Forest to Woods Way. See Map A.

From the East

North Jersey, NYC on Route 80: Coming through the Delaware Water Gap, you'll have no issues except where Route 209 South narrows to two lanes and slows. To stay on highway as much as possible, do not exit Route 80 at Route 209 / Route 33 South — instead stay on Route 80 until it meets 476 (PA Turnpike) and continue with the "From the North" directions above.

If you stick with Route 209 South to save miles, do not take the turn onto Hemlock St that GPS suggests — for big rigs it's more than a 90-degree turn into the opposing lane (a blind spot) onto an immediate upslope. Instead, stay on Beltzville Drive when GPS says to turn onto Station St, then take Beltzville Drive to Pine Run to Owl Creek to Hemlock to Forest to Woods Way. See Map C.

Central Jersey, NYC on Route 78: Take the PA Turnpike (476 North) to Exit 74. The only precautions are within the last mile — use Woods Way, taking Pine Run to Owl Creek to Hemlock to Forest to Woods Way. See Map B.

From the West

Harrisburg / Lancaster on Route 78: Take the PA Turnpike (476 North) to Exit 74, then follow the last-mile route via Pine Run to Owl Creek to Hemlock to Forest to Woods Way. See Map B.

Pittsburgh, State College, Bloomsburg on Route 80: Travel Route 80 East and take the PA Turnpike (476 South), then continue with the "From the North" directions above.
